BEHIND THE LENS
Melissa Melendez
As a former agency photographer and producer, my style has been informed by many viewpoints.
We'll call it "well-rounded". Throughout my two decades-long photo career, I've captured many different categories of image for commercial and private clients; including lifestyle, product, landscape, architecture, interiors, fine art and sports.
That's why I approach my portraits more like creating art, taking into account all the variables—the subject, the location, the lighting, the mood, the spirit behind the person. Every person's portrait looks a little different based on the subject's idea or purpose for the shots. A person's identity tends to shine though the lens in its own unique way, which can't really be replicated. What you choose to wear, where you choose to be, who you choose to bring, and what mood you're trying to set—all these things factor into a portrait that will represent you uniquely.
